My name is Cheryl. And I am travelly challenged.
Two weeks ago, Best Friend and I headed out to a suburb for a party. The drive should be about an hour at most. It took us two-and-a-half hours to make the trip. Later, she told me all she could think was that it was because I was coming, and I have travel issues.
My travel issues first came to light back in my junior year of college, when I tried to make it home for Christmas and arrived home 10 hours behind schedule. But it didn’t stop there.
My luck with flying continued to be lacking. Seriously, if you see me on your flight, reschedule. Sometimes I get lucky and my flight is on time. Sometimes I get on an earlier flight. But I also get delayed. I sit on tarmacks. I sit on planes headed for Europe, waiting for takeoff times. I have to switch planes three times due to technical difficulties.
Yet my travel challenges range in the minor to major nuisance area, never the serious. No accidents. I am not the person who almost missed the cruise ship and had to be hoisted aboard after the ship waited as long as possible for me and had to leave without me (although I did get to watch said people).
The most frustrating thing of all is that I am not scared to travel. I am not a nervous flier, at least not because of the flying. I don’t think we’ll crash. Turbulence does not scare me. I am completely calm, cool and collected once I’m airborne. I only get scared about if and when the airborne part will happen.
So, I can’t help but think that Best Friend may have a point. Maybe, I should just stay home.
Ahhhh a 1 hour trip in 2 and a half. Gotta love Chicago!
Went through there this weekend twice. Do you think they can work on anymore roads at one time. Love the 94W toll booth going into WI.

I’m really not even sure how a 1 hour trip takes 2.5 hours. Did you make frequent stops? Get lost?

Bev, that is just the joy of Chicago traffic.

Is “travelly” a word? Not that I really care or anything. Best Friend is wrong, you can turn this cycle around. I bet you’ve travelled many times without problems. It’s just the bad times that really standout.

you know what they say – it’s about the journey, not the destination.
i hope you had fun, no matter what…

This is very funny!! I feel like that sometimes, but usually I am ”queue challenged” – not matter which queue or where I am, or whether on foot or car, I am always always in the slowest queue and if I change to the one I think it’s quicker, it soon becomes the slowest! So do not ever queue behind me, you have been warned!

I got stuck on the tarmac for an hour and a half yesterday…always dull, right?

Well, I think the important thing is that you keep traveling. Don’t stop because of the challenges — who knows — it may be fate’s way of keeping you safe!

I feel your anguish, Cheryl. My last two flights were delayed due to weather. The last one was a short flight from Milwaukee to Chicago on 9/22. Soon as we got to the runway, O’Hare shut down because a storm decided to stop on top of it. I was in the tiny commuter jet for over four hours. The guy next to me was clostophobic or something and he kept leaning over me, crowding me.
I get to fly away again on Sunday, pray for me.

I shouldn’t be confessing to this, but last time I went to visit a friend, that lives in a town where I lived myself for over two years, I got lost. They changed a bunch of streets to one-way streets and I got completely lost! What should have been a twenty minutes drive turned out to be a one hour drive, of which I spent most time trying to find my way the hell out of the town at night… *sigh*
So, just to tell you you’re not alone…

My problem is that my sense of direction blows. It’s painfully bad.
